Running for a Better Oakland

Running for a Better Oakland (RBO) (www.rboakland.org) is a not-for-profit organization that encourages K–12th grade students in Oakland and the surrounding cities to develop healthy lifestyles through running. RBO strives to give students the values for achievement and hard work that they can draw on for all areas of their lives.

Participants commit to training for 6 – 12 weeks in preparation for a 5K, 10K, or half-marathon race. All team practices are conducted Saturday mornings at Lake Merritt – rain or shine – and individual school teams practice together once or twice each week.

RBO provides professional coaching and access to RBO’s team nutritionist and physical therapist. Thanks to the great support of volunteer run mentors, RBO also provides the enthusiasm and help the students need to build the confidence and dedication needed to keep going that extra mile as the season progresses.
